What is Eczema?

Eczema is also known as contact dermatitis .Eczema is a skin disorder that is characterized by itching, scaling, thickening, crusting, scaling, inflammation of the skin usually located on the face, elbows, knees, arms and treated with topical anti-inflammatory medications available OTC or by prescription. Eczema is not contagious. Eczema occurs in both children and adults, but usually appears during infancy.The most common type of eczema is atop ic dermatitis. It's an allergic condition that makes your skin dry and itchy and is most common in babies and children. Eczema usually begins early in life, even before asthma or hay fever.

The other types of Eczema are:

  • Allergic contact eczema
  • Irritant contact eczema
  • Seborrhea eczema
  • Varicose eczema
  • Discoid eczema

Home Remedy for the treatment of Eczema

  • Take Biotin pills to prevent dermatitis.
  • Make a fine paste of 1 tsp camphor and 1-teaspoon sandalwood. Apply this paste on the affected eczema areas.
  • Take 1 tb sp turmeric powder and 1 tb sp of bitter nee leaves.Make a fine paste and apply it on the infected area.
  • Increase your intake of vitamin B6.
  • Apply Crisco 2-3 times a day.
  • Apply coconut oil on the infected portions of the eczema.
  • Squeeze basil leaves and apply on the infected area .
  • Rub nutmeg  against a smooth stone with a  few drops of water. Make a smooth paste and apply on the infected area.

Causes of Eczema

  • Changes in the weather.
  • history of other allergies or asthma.
  • Infantile eczema which often affects young babies . This may lead to a patch below their chins, which gets wettest from dribbling, and may be associated with cradle cap.
  • Emotional stress.
  • Pet animals.
  • Chemical irritants, such as pesticides, paint strippers, alcohol, astringents, perfumes, harsh soaps, detergents, and household cleaners.
  • Irritants like tobacco smoke, chemicals or solvents, even weather (hot, humid conditions or cold, dry ones) can aggravate eczema.

Symptoms of Eczema

  • Between 2 and 6 months of age (and almost always before the age of 5 years), children with eczema usually develop itchy, dry, red skin and small bumps on their cheeks, forehead, or scalp.
  • Ear discharges/bleeding.
  • Crusty rash on cheek
  • Redness of the skin around the blisters.
  • The skin may also become cracked, and leathery.
  • severe agitation.
