What is Acrodermatitis Enteropathica?

Acrodermatitis Enteropathica is autosomal recessive disorder due to lack of zinc present which is characterized by an inflammatory rash around the mouth,diarrhea and zinc deficiency. It can also cause to balding of scalp, eyebrow and lashes.

What are the causes of Acrodermatitis Enteropathica?

  • Acrodermatitis Enteropathica is occur because of malabsorption of zinc by the intestinal cells.

  • Zinc gluconate such as Verazinc, Zinca-Pak, Orazinc is essential for the treatment of this disease.
  • No diet is necessary for this disease.
  • Antibiotic therapy is used for bacterial and fungal infection.
  • Zinc replacement is good to improve depression of the mood and also to reduce the irritability.
