Alopecia Areata - Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and Home Remedies



Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system form antibodies which attack hair follicles. It causes loss of hair which include scalp and other parts of the body (beard, eyebrows, facial hair, etc). It is also known as patchy baldness.

Causes of Alopecia Areata:

Cause of Alopecia Areata is not found yet but it is recommended that it can occur due to abnormality in the immune system. Few times it is noted that it is related with allergic disorders, thyroid disease, rheumatoid arthritis and it can also occur due to hereditary problem.

Symptoms of Alopecia Areata:

  • roundish patches of hair loss on the head
  • it cause to smooth, hairless scalp in the affected areas.
  • Loss of body hair
  • Loss of eyelashes and eyebrows
  • Some disease like thyroid disease and asthma may occur to the patient.
  • Itching, tenderness or a burning sensation of affected area.

Treatment of Alopecia Areata:

  • Cortisone cream orcortisone solution injected is useful to treat.
  • Various are used for autoimmune condition.
  • Intralesional steroids are usually used to treat Alopecia Areata
  • monotherapy with a topical steroid is a beneficial.
  • use a combination of minoxidil and anthralin is essential.
  • A 5% solution of Minoxidil
