What is Amyloidosis Macular?

Amyloidosis Macular is a cutaneous entity characterized by irregular pigmentation and pruritus. It is common form of primary amyloidosis which is caused by the use of of a nylon towel or scrub brush to clean the skin. It is mostly found on upper back and it is mostly common in the Asians, South Americans and Middle Easterners.

Causes

It may occur because of the use of nylon towel or scrub brush to clean the skin for many years.

Treatment of Amyloidosis Macular

  • Some antibiotics, dermabrasion, and shaving are used to treat amyloidosis macular.
  • Cryotherapy, curettage and electrodesiccation are also useful for treatment.
  • Ultraviolet B is for treatment which provide symptomatic relief.
  • Some drugs such as Chlorpheniramine, Diphenhydramine and Dimethyl sulfoxide are essential for this disease.
  • Laser vaporization, dermabrasion, and excision of individual lesions comes under surgical treatment.
  • Dermabrasion, and excision of individual lesions are very useful treatment.
  • Sedating antihistamines have an effective use in treatment.
