Anetoderma - Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and Home Remedies



What is Anetoderma ?

Anetoderma is a maculer atrophy which is characterized by circumscribed lesions and due to focal loss of dermal elastic tissue because of which the skin becomes baglike and wrinkled. It is mostly affect to the women in their middle age but it can also occur to the child. It is usually occur on the trunk, thigh and upper arms.

Causes of Anetoderma

Anetoderma is classified in to two categories which is primary and secondary anetoderma. Primary anetoderma is associated with following-

  • Cataract, keratoconus, and optic atrophy in eye.
  • Calcifications, kyphoscoliosis and spina bifida in bone.
  • Aortic insufficiency and myocardial infarction in Cardiovascular.

Secondary Anetoderma is associated with following-

  • It can associate with disease like autoimmune such as systemic lupus erythematosus or the antiphospholipid syndrome.
  • It may occur because of Tuberculosis, Urticaria pigmentosa, Varicella.
  • Drugs like penicillamine may also responsible for it.
  • Hereditary can also be a reason of this disease.

There are a list of some disease with which secondary anetoderma is related.

  • Acne
  • Amyloidosis
  • Cutaneous lymphoma
  • Dermatofibroma
  • Insects bites
  • Lymphocytoma
  • Perifolliculitis

Treatment of Anetoderma

Some drugs such as intralesional steroids, penicillin G, aspirin, phenytoin, dapsone, vitamin E, and niacin are used to treat this anetoderma but no effective medicine is found to treat this disease. Topical e-aminocaproic acid and oral colchicine are used to stop inflammatory lesions.

Surgical treatment can do if these lesions are small in size and less in number.
