What is Bacillary Angiomatosis?
Bacillary Angiomatosis is bacterial infection caused by either Bartonella henselae or Bartonella quintana and it is characterized by unique vascular lesions. It causes an eruption of purple lesions on or under the skin. It is mostly occur to the patient of AIDS and due to the cat-scratch.
Causes of Bacillary Angiomatosis
- Two bacteria i.e. Bartonella henselae or Bartonella quintanan are mainly cause to the bacillary angiomatosis.
- Another cause of this disease is cat-scratch which may be complicated to immunocompetent patients.
Symptoms of Bacillary Angiomatosis
- Tumor like masses occurred in the skin and organs.
- Nodules which are occurred in this diseases don't turn in to white when it is pressed.
- Lesion can occur any where in the body such as on the soul of the feet, palms of the hand, and in the mouth and it can be in the rang of 1 to 100.
- Because of increase in the number of these lesions the patient can suffer from the fever, chills, sweats.
- Patient can also experience vomiting, problem in appetite and weight loss and all these problem should be treated otherwise it may be fatal.
- Anorexia and Gastrointestinal symptoms.
Treatment of Bacillary Angiomatosis
- Oral erythromycin works as a key component in the treatment of bacillary angiomatosis.
- Some oral antibiotics and antituberculosis drugs such as tetracycline, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and rifampin are very useful for this disease.
- Therapy must be provided otherwise it may cause to death.
- Some other drugs such as azithromycin, clarithromycin, doxycycline are also approved as essential.
Prevention:Contact with the cat must be prevent.
