Behcets Disease - Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and Home Remedies



What is Behcets Disease?

Behcets Disease is an unususal autoimmune disorder and is characterized by painful mouth ulcers, genital ulcers, eye problems and skin lesions. It causes vasculitis (i.e. blood vessels which becomes inflamed) in any part of the body. It is usually affects the area of mouth and genitalia and it also disturb other system of the body such as central nervous system, digestive tract etc.

Causes :The cause of behcets disease is not known but it is thought that bacterial or viral infection may be the cause of this disease.

Symptoms of Behcets Disease

  • It inflamed the eye which make eye red, tearing light sensitivity and it can also be danger because it affects retina.
  • Ulcer occur in the mouth which is result of minor trauma and It can appear on the tongue, lips and inside of the cheek.
  • Lesion and rashes occur on the skin called folliculitis can found any where in the body and red, tender nodules which is mostly occur on the legs or ankles but it can also occur on the face, neck or arms.
  • Genital sores affects both male and female which is mostly occur on the scrotum in men and vulva in women.
  • Tenderness or inflammation in the joint which called arthritis.
  • Anorexia, weight loss and headache
  • Sore throats and tonsillitis and changes in the body temperature.

Treatment of Behcets Disease

  • Tetracycline solution, Topical corticosteroids and Local anaesthetics are very useful therapy for the treatment of Behcets Disease.
  • For disease exacerbations systemic corticosteroids are required.
  • For some patient chronic, low doses of prednisone is require to control the disease.
  • Prednisone and some other kind of immunosuppressive treatment is required for the disease if disease is occurred in the eye or central nervous system.
  • Some Immunosuppressive agents like azathioprine, cyclosporine, cyclophosphamide, and chlorambucilare used for the treatment of this disease.
  • Using prednisone and cyclophosphamide or chlorambucil collectively are the favored therapy.
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen are also prescribed.
