What is Dyshidrotic Dermatitis?
Dyshidrotic Dermatitis is also known as Dyshidrotic Eczema, Pompholyx and Dyshidrotic Dermatitis. It is skin disease.Dyshidrotic dermatitis is a form of hand eczema. It is commonly seen in women. It is an intensely itchy rash that occurs on the hands and feet. It is appear in between the age of 20 and 40 years. This disease is curable upto 2 to 3 weeks. Male-to-female ratio is 1:1. Its cause is unknown. They can be different is color, size and texture. The causes involve genetic factors and stress.
Causes of Dyshidrotic Dermatitis
- Excessive sweating during periods of anxiety, stress, and frustration
- Soaps, detergents, fragrances and contact with fruit juices
- Nickel allergies
- Multiple chemical sensitivity
- Ingestion of allergens
- Emotional stress
What are the symptoms of Dyshidrotic Dermatitis?
- Small blisters on the hands or feet
- Dermatosis of the fingers, palms, and soles
- Blisters are opaque and deep-seated
- Nails on affected fingers, or toes, may take on a pitted appearance
- Small, deep blisters can form on the palms, sides of the fingers, and/or soles
- Extensive peeling and cracking in severe cases.
- Topical medication such as pramoxine can help relief pain and itch.
- PUVA therapy (a type of light treatment) helps some patients with chronic dyshidrotic dermatitis.
Dyshidrotic Dermatitis Treatment
- Nutritional deficiencies may be related, so addressing diet and vitamin intake is helpful
- Salt soak.
- Ciclosporin a strong immunosuppressant drug used to combat dyshidrosis caused by ulcerative colitis.
- Avoid metal computer keyboards and track pads which contain nicke.l
- Wash affected hands and feet with cool water and apply a moisturizer.
- Antibiotics may be needed if the skin is broken and infection is suspected.
- Potent topical steroids should be applied to the affected areas nightly.
- Medications,dapsone.
