What is Erythrasma?

Erythrasma is a skin disease. Erythrasma affects the skin folds such as under the arms, in the groin and between the toes. Erythrasma is appear in pink patches. Erythrasma is seen in warm climates. Erythrasma appear among those who are overweight or have diabetes.This disease is seen in dark-skinned people. Erythrasma occur in any age group. It is equally affected in male and female. The infection occurs in moist areas such as the groin, armpit, skin folds and anywhere where skin rubs against skin. Erythrasma may occur in any part of body. Erythrasma may recur in 6 to 12 months.

Causes of Erythrasma

• The cause of erythrasma is a bacterial infection.
• Erythrasma is caused by dermatophyte fungi or Candida albicans.
• Erythrasma is caused by exposure to longwave ultraviolet radiation.
• This disease is caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium minutissimum.
• Erythrasma is caused by excessive sweating and immune deficiency.

What are the symptoms of Erythrasma?

Erythrasma Treatment

• Erythrasma can be treated with antiseptic such as Fusidic acid cream,Clindamycin solution.
• Extensive infection can be treated with oral antibiotics, including erythromycin or tetracycline.
• Antibacterial soap can be used to prevent recurrence.
• Prescription erythromycin gel applied to the skin give the good result.
• Antibacterial soap is essential to remove patches.
• Aluminum chloride solution to inhibit sweating and moisture .
• Topical antibiotic lotions such as erythromycin or clindamycin.
• Garlic (Allium sativum) this herb is believed to have antibacterial properties.
